CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT

High school juniors and seniors may complete college classes while still in high school if they meet eligibility requirements. Eligible students must participate in a national college entrance exam (i.e. ACT). Seniors must have a high school GPA of 3.0 and score a minimum composite of 19 on the ACT. while juniors must have a high school GPA of 3.5 and a minimum composite score of 21 on the ACT. Students must also have a subtest score of 19 in order to take a college course within that subject area—English courses require an English subtest score of 19; math courses, a math subtest score of 19; science courses, a science subtest score of 19; other courses such as social sciences, a reading subtest score of 19.

Seniors who take college classes concurrently receive a resident tuition waiver for up to 6 credit hours (usually 2 college courses) per semester. Each student is responsible for the remaining fees and for the cost of any required books. Juniors enrolled in college classes are responsible for the entire cost of the course. The summer between one’s junior and senior year is the first opportunity the tuition waiver is available for eligible students. Grades for these courses do appear on high school transcripts.
